    Significance of Kapilash Temple

     

    The most famous pilgrimage Kapilas Temple located in the northeastern part of Dhenkanal city in  Odisha and is situated 2239 ft height above sea level. For visits to the Temple, you have two paths to choose from, one you may climb up 1352 stairs or you can go via “Barabanki” a travel twisting way. The 60 ft temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and it glorifies in any auspicious occasion Shivratri or in the holy month of Savan when Lord shiva is worshipped more. The statue of Sri Ganesh, Kartikeya, and Ganga devi is also installed in the temple along with a wooden Jagmohan. A Payamrta Kund is also seen on the left side of the temple and on the right side, there is a Marichi Kund settled here.

    The temple was built by the king of the Ganga Dynasty Narasinghdev in 1246 AD for Sri Chandrashekhar.

     

    On the top of the hill, a temple of Narayana, and Viswanath is situated. Some distance away there is a ridge that witnesses the ruined forts and the caves of ancient times. It is said that it is the Ashram of Kapil Muni and is also said next to Kailash which is the abode of Lord Shiva. 

     

    In Savana when the pouring of water on Shivlinga is of great importance, devotees carry the holy water from Mahanandi and trek barefoot to worship the lord Shiva in the temple. 

    On the occasion of Shivratri, the temple reached its optimum beauty and you will experience a spectacular view for 3 days.
